55% Decline in Average Daily Deaths in the last one month
62.6 lakh beneficiaries vaccinated against COVID19

A total of 1.05 Cr (1,05,48,521) people have recovered
so far. 14,016 patients have recovered and got discharged in the last 24 hours.
The difference between the recovered patients and the active cases continues to
progressively grow. It is pegged at 1,04,04,896 today.
With a consistent rise in cumulative recoveries,
As on 9th February, 2021, till
8:00 AM, nearly 62.6lakh (62,59,008) beneficiaries have received the vaccination
under the countrywide COVID19 vaccination exercise.
Out of these, 5,482,102 are Healthcare Workers
and 7,76,906 are Frontline workers.
During Day 24 of the vaccination drive, 4,46,646 people (HCWs – 1,60,710 and
FLWs- 2,85,936) were vaccinated across 10,269 sessions. 1,26,756 sessions have
been conducted so far.

new recovered cases are observed to be concentrated in 6 States/UTs.
Kerala has reported the maximum number of single day
recoveries with 5,959 newly recovered cases. 3,423 people
recovered in Maharashtra in the past 24 hours followed by 550 in
9,110 daily new cases
registered in the last 24 hours. 81.39%
of the new cases are from 6 States and UTs.
Kerala continues to report the highest daily new cases at 3,742.
It is followed by
78 deaths were recorded
in the last 24 hours. Less than 100 deaths have been reported since the last 4
days.
Five States/UTs account for 64.1% of the new deaths. Kerala saw the maximum
casualties (16). Maharashtra follows with 15 daily deaths, while

persons staying in Vishram Sadan at AIIMS,
In his address to the audience at the ceremony, the Union
Health Minister thanked the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) for taking the
initiative of distributing blankets for the people in need during the ongoing
cold season.
Dr Harsh Vardhan recalled that the IRCS has committedly
helped people in need since 1920 and has a rich history of humanitarian
endeavours. Their work is not limited only to disasters and emergencies, it
also regularly carries out various social development activities. Red Cross
supplemented the efforts of government during Lockdown helping those who got
stuck in Lockdown and also ensured blood availability throughout the pandemic,
he stated.
Talking about the challenge posed by COVID19, the Union
Minister highlighted that the vaccine for the prevention of COVID19 has been
approved and the Government of India have already started the largest
vaccination drive in the world. He also stated that, the fact that the vaccine
is developed indigenously, “shows the great capacity our country has and is a
big boost to the Prime Minister’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative”.
In appreciation of the IRCS’s active role in reducing the
impact of COVID-19, Dr Harsh Vardhan stated, “it gives me a sense of pride that
IRCS is playing an important role in the fight against COVID-19. The
multidimensional response with a broad range of activities by IRCS for the
ongoing COVID-19 emergency is testimonial of IRCS’s capacity as an organization

Increase in Institutional
Deliveries Under Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY)

Institutional deliveries reported by the States/UTs during
the period from April to December, 2019 is 1.54 Crore in comparison to 1.33
Crore for the corresponding period for the current year i.e. from April to December,
2020 as reported in Health Management Information System (HMIS).
Keeping in view the importance of institutional deliveries, several
initiatives have been taken by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare so
as to ensure smooth provisioning of health services by the States / UTs
including maternal health, child health, immunization, etc. Regular monitoring
and video conferences were held with the States/UTs highlighting the necessity
of continued services during COVID times.
The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare also shared ‘Guidance Note
on Provision of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health
Plus Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) Services during & post COVID-19 Pandemic’
and ‘Enabling Delivery of Essential Health Services during COVID-19 Outbreak’
on 14th April,
2020 and 24th May 2020
respectively.

Strengthening infrastructure of
Public Health System

Health & Hospitals, being a State subject, primary
responsibility to strengthen public health infrastructure, lies with the
respective State Government. The Central Government, however, provides
technical and financial support to States under National Health Mission (NHM)
for improving health care systems, based on their proposals subject to
availability of resources.
Under the Ayushman Bharat initiative, the Government is
committed to setting up of 1.5 lakhs Health & Wellness Centers (HWCs),
across the country by December, 2022. Sufficient resources have been provided
to the States for the creation of the same and as many as 57,017 HWCs have
become functional so far, taking primary healthcare services to the community.
The PM Atma Nirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana has been announced
for developing capacities of primary, secondary and tertiary care health
systems, strengthen existing national institutions, and create new
institutions, to cater to detection and cure of new and emerging diseases. This
will be in addition to the National Health Mission. The main interventions
under the scheme are:
1.
a.
Support for 17,788 rural and 11,024 urban
Health and Wellness Centres;
b.
Setting up integrated public health labs in
all districts and 3382 block public health units in 11 States;
c.
Establishing critical care hospital blocks in
602 districts and 12 central institutions;
d.
Strengthening of the National Centre for
Disease Control (NCDC), its 5 regional branches and 20 metropolitan health
surveillance units;
e.
Expansion of the Integrated Health
Information Portal to all States/UTs to connect all public health labs;
f.
Operationalisation of 17 new Public Health
Units and strengthening of 33 existing Public Health Units at Points of Entry,
that is at 32 Airports, 11 Seaports and 7 land crossings;
g.
Setting up of 15 Health Emergency Operation
Centres and 2 mobile hospitals; and
h.
Setting up of a national institution for One
Health, a Regional Research Platform for WHO South East Asia Region, 9
Bio-Safety Level III laboratories and 4 regional National Institutes for
Virology.
20% of funds under the NHM are placed in an incentive pool.
Incentives are provided to States on achievement of priority indicators
including on increase in States’ budgetary expenditure on health.

Beneficiaries under Ayushman Bharat
Yojana

As on 04.02.2021, approx. 1.59 crore hospital admissions
worth Rs. 19,714 crore have been authorized through
a network of 24,321 Empaneled Health Care Providers under Ayushman Bharat
PradhanMantri – Jan ArogyaYojana (AB-PMJAY).
AB-PMJAY provides health assurance cover of up to Rs. 5
Lakh per year per family for secondary and tertiary healthcare
hospitalizations. The beneficiary families under AB-PMJAY have been identified
on the basis of select deprivation and occupational criteria in rural and
urban areas respectively as per SECC 2011 database. This covers approximately
10.74 crore families (50 crore people). Further, the States/UTs
implementing AB-PMJAY have extended the coverage of the scheme to 13.17 crore
families (approx. 65 crore people).

Strengthening National Urban Health

National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) was approved in May,
2013 as a sub-mission under National Health Mission (NHM) for providing
equitable and quality primary health care services to the urban population with
special focus on the slum and vulnerable population. States have the
flexibility regarding implementation of NUHM through their State Health
Department or Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).
Since
its launch, there has been a gradual increase in terms of financial and
physical progress reported by the States. So far, an amount of Rs. 6493.28
Crore has been released under the mission. Support has been provided for
strengthening of total of 5430 facilities (5246- UPHCs and 184 UCHCs) in urban
areas, construction of 807 new UPHCs and 86 new UCHCs. A total of 3692
Medical Officers, 506 Specialists and 36,037 para-medical staff have been
approved. 77,019 ASHAs and 93,600 MAS have also been approved under the
Programme.
Under
Ayushman Bharat (AB) which was launched In 2018 with twin components of Pradhan
Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) and Setting up of AB-Health and Wellness
Centres (HWCs), Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) made operational as
HWCs with expanded range of services.
There
has been continuous endeavor on the part of the government to strengthen NUHM
implementation in the States/UTs. Regular reviews, consultations and Video
Conferences have been organized with the States/UTs to monitor their financial
and physical progress. Also, Ministry has been providing continuous
technical support and guidance to the States/UTs for strengthening of services
under NHM, including NUHM. From time to time guidelines, brochures on
thematic areas have been developed and shared with the States/UTs.
Training and capacity building is also being supported besides regular team
visits to the States.

Activities Undertaken for Anaemia

Anaemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) strategy was launched in 2018
with the objective of reducing anaemia prevalence among children, adolescents
and women in reproductive age group. Operational guidelines, training and
IEC material were developed and shared with the States & UTs for effective
implementation of this strategy. All the States and UTs have initiated
activities regarding implementation of AMB namely prophylactic Iron folic acid
supplementation, identification of anaemic cases, referral & treatment and
others. Currently, programme is in its initial stages and working towards
achieving reduction in anaemia prevalence particularly in women, children and
adolescents.
As per recently released National Family Health Survey-V
data in respect of 22 States and UTs, the State/UT-wise prevalence of
anaemia reported amongst the identified population groups namely - children
6-59 months, pregnant women, women 15-49 years, adolescent girls 15-19 years
and adolescent boys 15-19 years.
