India becomes the fastest country to reach 4 million COVID19 vaccination mark in 18 days

Active Caseload dips below 1.5% of the Total Cases

14 States/UTs have not reported any deaths in the last 24 hours

India’s trajectory of leaping across landmarks in its fight against the global pandemic continues.

In a significant achievement, India has become the fastest country in the world to reach the 4 million COVID19 vaccination mark.

The country has achieved this feat in 18 days.

As on 1st February, 2021, India was among the top five countries in terms of number of COVID19 vaccine doses administered to people. India continues to undertake its vaccination drive at a fast pace. 

India’s fight against Covid-19 is bringing daily successes on other fronts as well.

14 States/UTs have not reported any deaths in the last 24 hours. These states are A&N Islands, D&D & D&N, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland, Lakshadweep, Ladakh (UT), Sikkim, Manipur, Puducherry, Goa, Odisha and Assam.

With a high number of COVID patients recovering every day and the sustained fall in the mortality rate, India’s steady trend of registering dipping active cases continues.

The country’s active cases have declined further to 1,60,057 in the last 24 hours. The Active Caseload of the country has fallen below 1.5% (1.49% presently) of the total cases.

11,039 new confirmed cases were recorded in the last 24 hours in the country, 14,225  new recoveries were registered in the same period. It has led to a net decline of 3,296 cases from the total active caseload.

The total recovered cases are 1,04,62,631. TheNational Recovery rate (97.08%) continues to be one of the highest globally.

The gap between active cases and recovered cases is continuously increasing and stands at 1,03,02,574.

31States and UTs have less than 5,000 active cases. 

8 States and UTs have weekly positivity rate higher than the national average (1.91%). Kerala has the highest weekly positivity rate of 12%, followed by Chhattisgarh with 7%. 

As on 3^rd February, 2021, till 8 AM, more than 41 lakh (41,38,918) beneficiaries have received the vaccination under the countrywide COVID19 vaccination exercise.

In the last 24 hours, 1,88,762 healthcare workers were vaccinated across 3,845 sessions.

76,576 sessions have been conducted so far. 

The number of beneficiaries being vaccinated every day has shown a progressive increase.

85.62% of the newly recovered cases are recorded in 8 States/UTs. Kerala has contributed the highest number to the newly recovered cases (5,747), followed by Maharashtra(4,011) and Tamil Nadu (521).

83.01% of the new cases are from 6 States and UTs.

Kerala has reported the highest daily new cases at 5,716. It is followed by Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu with 1,927and 510 new cases each respectively.

110 case fatalities have been reported in the past 24 hours.

Five States/UTs account for 66.36%of these.

Maharashtra reported maximum casualties with 30 new fatalities. It is followed by Kerala with 16 new daily deaths.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare digitally addressed the students of Shri Ram College of Commerce on their 94^th Annual Foundation Day today. 

Lauding the college on its achievements, Dr Harsh Vardhan noted, “I wholeheartedly appreciate the unwavering determination of this institute, its faculty members and all stakeholders in contributing towards nation building by churning out globally responsible citizens, conscientious of their community, society and the country as a whole.Three years ago, in February 2017, I had the honour to be present amidst all of you for the national launch of SRCC Global Millennium Summit, Dubai. I consider it a matter of great pride that you all continue to bestow your love and affection upon me.” He congratulated SRCC for being one of the best colleges for commerce in the continent and for producing notable alumni in every fieldlike corporate affairs, law, and politics.

Emphasizing on the vision of seeing India as Vishwa-Guru and the potential of youth of our country which serves as its bedrock, Dr. Harsh Vardhansaid, “The government places maximum emphasis on the youth of the nation. The New Education Policy introduced by the government led by our visionary Prime Minister ShriNarendraModijiwill surely change the quality of education services in the country for generations to come. In fact, ensuring the highest standards of education is a top priority for our government because education forms the apex of the social pyramid. India is a country which has huge untapped potential of our youth. Our beloved Prime Minister has given a clarion call for building a strong and self-reliant India, an AtmaNirbhar Bharat that is already rubbing shoulders with global superpowers.” He mentionedthat “The dream of a self-reliant AtmaNirbhar Bharat can only be met if we encourage our youth to 'Innovate, Patent, Produce & Prosper' and lead our country towards faster development”.

Dr. Harsh Vardhandetailed his thoughts on the role of the youth in lifting India out of the gloom of pandemic: “COVID-19 has turned the clock back in some ways and that the deadly virus has derailed our development plans temporarily. This period needs strategized advocacy, thought leadership and disruptive social entrepreneurship. It needs mass mobilisation, aggressive campaigns, powerful partners and deep commitments. And most of all, it needs a powerful societal commitment. In these critical times, the youth have immense potential to showcase their vibrant energy, enthusiasm and calibre. They should assist by providing the right information about the vaccination drive and other related policy actions of the government regarding COVID-19.”

Applauding the efforts of scientists and health professionals, he observed, “Indian scientists and healthcare professionals have stood the test of time. While our COVID warriors have sacrificed themselves to ensure the safety of all of us, our scientists have done a laudable job by developing the COVID-19 vaccine. I can assure you that the government is working overtime to meet the challenge of vaccinating 1.35 billion people.”

Dr. Harsh Vardhanended his speech by quoting Swami Vivekananda, whom he described as a master educationist of all times, “Education which does not help the common mass of people to equip themselves for the struggle for life, which does not bring out the strength of character, a spirit of philanthropy, and the courage of a lion- is it worth the name? Real education is that which enables one to stand on one’s own legs.”Dr. Harsh Vardhan’s call to everyone to join hands to make India regain the status of Vishwa-Guru resonated with the faculty and students.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare digitally presided over the  58th National Conference of theIndian Academy of Pediatricstoday.

Appreciating the works of Indian Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Harsh Vardhan noted, “I am aware that the Indian Academy of Paediatrics is constantly working with Government of India on many issues related to Child Health. In Polio Eradication, Immunization, Guidelines on Junk foods, Supporting Government during Pandemic, Antimicrobial Resistance, Fight against Tuberculosis in our National TB Elimination Program, Combating Malnutrition, as well as in Adolescent Health, your work and advocacy have been remarkable.I am confident that Indian Academy of Paediatrics with its mammoth membership strength of more than 30,000 members and state branches in every state as well as 350 city branches has a very good infrastructure to support the activities of Government related to child health.” 

Expressing his happiness on the Parental Guidelinesthat planned to be rolled this year on about 100 common conditions pertaining to children by the Academy, the Union minister said, “This would be a very good and useful document and will be of immense value for Indian Parents. It is even more commendable that you shall ensure that they will be available in most Indian languages for the general public.”

He continued, “I appreciate that you have developed online tools on the basis of revised Navjaat Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (NSSR) module. Indian Academy of Paediatrics through its dIAP platform has over the past year perfected the art of online training. Indian Academy of Paediatrics is furthering the vision of our Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji of a Digital India as well as AtmanirbharBharat. Using this expertise I am sure these online tools will have a far reaching benefits in reaching the unreached, reducing cost of training and reducing manpower requirement”, he said.

Noting the efforts of Indian Academy of Pediatrics in the state of Madhya Pradesh , Dr. Harsh Vardhan said, “I am delighted that you are organising a special program for training of trainers, exclusively for Madhya Pradesh aimed to decrease its Neonatal Mortality.I am hopeful that the program designed by you in collaboration with Government of Madhya Pradesh will give encouraging results in the six high priority districts, and shall subsequently be rolled out in the entire state and thereafter the entire country. I assure full cooperation from the Government of India in making this program a great success.”

He added, “Another flagship project of Indian Academy of Paediatrics, funded by UNICEF and WHO, namely Early Child Development is also path breaking, important, impressive and will ensure that our future citizens achieve full potential.”

Concluding his presidential address, Dr. Vardhanexpressed his gratitude to Indian Academy of Paediatrics for extending their very valuable advice, guidance and contribution in 1994 to initiate Pulse Polio Programme in the country which has borne remarkable and historic success ultimately resulting in the declaration of a certified Polio Free India by WHO in 2014, 20 years later.
