16,752 new cases were registered
in the last 24 hours.
Eight states are displaying an upward trajectory in daily new
cases.
The Centre has been engaging with the States and UTs
exhibiting higher caseload of active cases and those reporting a spike in the
daily new COVID cases. The Cabinet Secretary chaired a high-level review
meeting yesterday with the States/UTs exhibiting a surge in cases including Telangana,
Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, MP, Gujarat, Punjab, J&K and
Cabinet Secretary reiterated that States need to maintain a
continued rigorous vigil in terms of containing the spread and not squander
away the gains of the collective hard work of the last year. They were advised
not to lower their guard, enforce COVID Appropriate Behaviour and deal firmly
with violations. It was strongly underlined that they need to follow effective
surveillance strategies in respect of potential super spreading events. Need
for effective testing, comprehensive tracking, prompt isolation of positive
cases and quick quarantine of close contacts were also strongly emphasized.
The Centre has also deputed high-level multi-disciplinary
teams to Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh,
Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and
On the front of COVID Vaccination, a total of 1,43,01,266
vaccine doses have been administered through 2,92,312 sessions, as per the
provisional report till 7 am today. These include 66,69,985 HCWs (1st dose),
24,56,191 HCWs (2nd dose) and 51,75,090 FLWs (1st dose).

A total of 1.07 Cr (1,07,75,169) people has recovered so far. 11,718 patients have recovered and got discharged in the last 24 hours.
84.19% of the new recovered cases
are observed to be concentrated in 6 States.
Kerala
has reported the maximum number of single day recoveries with 4,650 newly
recovered cases. 3,648 people recovered in
113 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
Six
States account for 84.96% of the new
deaths.
Nineteen States/UTs have not reported any COVID19 deaths in the
last 24 hours. These are Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, J&K (UT),
Odisha, Goa,

Free COVID Vaccination at all Government Health Facilities

The
next phase of the world’s largest vaccination drive for the age appropriate
population groupswill commence from 1stMarch 2021 (tomorrow). Registration will open at 9:00 am on 1st March 2021 (at www.cowin.gov.in).Citizens will be able to register and book and appointment for
vaccination, anytime and anywhere, using the COWIN 2.0 portal or through other
IT applications such as Arogya Setu etc.
This
information was shared during the orientation workshop organised by the Union
Health Ministry and the National Health Authority (NHA) for the 10,000 private
hospitals under Ayushman Bharat PMJAY, more than 600 hospitals empanelled under
CGHS and other private hospitals empanelled under State Government’s Health
Insurance Schemes,on Co-WIN2.0.The modalities of the new features integrated in
the CoWIN2.0 digital platformwere explained to them.The private empanelled
COVID Vaccination Centers (CVCs) were also trained on various aspects of the
process of vaccination and management of adverse events following immunization
(AEFI) through video conference with the support of the National Health
Authority (NHA).
The
participants were explained that all citizens that are aged, or will attain the
age of, 60 years or more as on 1st January
2022 are eligible to register, in addition to all such citizens that are aged,
or will attain the age of, 45 years to 59 years as on 1st January
2022, and have any of the specified 20 comorbidities (as annexed).
There
will be only one live appointment for a beneficiary at any point of time for
each dose. Appointments for any date for a
The
eligible persons will be able to register at the Co-WIN2.0 portal through their
mobile number, through a step by step process. With one mobile number, a person
can register as many as four
beneficiaries. However, all those registered on one mobile number will have
nothing in common except the mobile number. The Photo ID Card Number for each
such beneficiary must be

citizens for availing of online registration–

It
was also explained that the Central Government shall procure all the vaccines
and supply them free of cost to the States and UTs who in turn will disburse
them further to the Government and Private COVID Vaccination Centres (CVCs).It
was re-iterated that all vaccines provided to beneficiaries at the Government
Health Facilities will be entirely free of cost, while Private Facilities
cannot charge the beneficiary a sum above Rs. 250 per person per dose (Rs 150/-
for vaccines and Rs 100/- as operational charges). Private Hospitals are to
remit the cost of vaccine doses allotted to them in a designated account of
National Health Authority (NHA). Payment gateway for the same is being enabled
by NHA on their website.
The
Government of India has supplied two COVID-19 vaccines, Covishield &
Covaxin, free of cost to the States/UTs to vaccinateHealth Care Workers (HCWs)
and Front Line Workers (FLWs) and will also be able to cover the next priority
group i.e. 60 years plus age group and the age group of 45 to 59 years
suffering from Pre-Specified Co-Morbidities.
The
States have been requested to operationalize the linkages between the COVID-19
Vaccination Centres (CVCs) (both government & private empanelled
facilities) with the nearest cold chain points for ensuring smooth vaccine
delivery to COVID Vaccination Centres (CVCs).

Dr
Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare today addressed the
Global Indian Physicians Congress, organized by the Global Association for
Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO), through video conference.
Expressing
his appreciation to GAPIO, which since its inception in 2011 has
endeavoured to bring 1.4 million physicians of Indian origin across the world
on a single platform to facilitate exchange of knowledge, skills and research, Dr Harsh
Vardhan called the association a shining example of the talent and
caliber of Indian physicians who have made remarkable contributions in various
fields of medicine across the globe.
Praising
the contribution of medical professionals in the fight against the COVID-19
pandemic, Dr Harsh Vardhan said, “As the world faced the
unprecedented crisis of COVID19, it has been our doctors, nurses and healthcare
workers who have cemented their position as the foremost champions of humanity,
saving humankind as it was staring at an existential crisis. I salute their
courage, valour and selflessness in serving society. No words are enough to
express gratitude towards all the Corona Warriors, who risked their own lives
to save the lives of others. It’s unfortunate and a great personal loss for me
that so many of them lost their lives during this time.” In this context, the Union
Minister also noted GAPIO’s efforts towards establishing the Global Indian
Physician COVID-19 Collaborative to continuously share their knowledge and
experiences to arrive at the best possible approach for management of COVID-19.
Dr.
Harsh Vardhan took the occasion to highlight the government’s efforts in
controlling the COVID-19 pandemic: “It has been a result of our
pre-emptive, proactive and graded approach that

the ongoing work within the Ministry, he said, “We are now working towards
further augmenting our healthcare systems through a paradigm shift of policies
and overarching programs like the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and
Aatmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana. A new thinking is taking shape with the
establishment of the National Medical Commission, Nursing Commission Bill and
National Commission for Allied Healthcare Professions Bills. Ambitious plans
have been made for expanding medical colleges and revamping the healthcare
infrastructure in

greatly benefit from the support and assistance of Associations like GAPIO. He
added that facilitating exchange of ideas and knowledge will not only help
