India records lowest New Cases after 8 months; 9,102 found positive in the last 24 hours

Active Cases now 1.66% of Cumulative Positive Cases

Daily Fatalities drop to 117 after more than 8 months

Number of vaccinated healthcare workers crosses 20 lakhs

India has crossed a crucial milestone in its fight against the global pandemic. The daily new cases have touched a new low today.

9,102 daily new cases were added to the national tally in the last 24 hours after 237 days. The daily new cases were 9,304 on 4^th June, 2020.

With a sustained, pro-active and calibrated strategy of the Centre based on ‘whole of government’ and ‘whole of society’ approach, the daily new cases have seen a consistent decline. This has ensured a steady fall in daily fatalities too. The country has recorded less than 120 (117) fatalities in the last 24 hours after more than 8 months (8 months 9 days).

India’s active caseload has fallen to 1,77,266 today. The share of Active Cases in the total Positive Cases has further compressed to 1.66% of the cumulative caseload.

A net decline of 6,916 cases has been recorded in the total active cases in last 24 hours.

Active cases per million population is lowest in the world (128). Germany, Russia, Brazil, Italy, UK and USA have much higher cases per million population.

India’s Cases per million population is also amongst the lowest in the world (7,736).

As on 26th January, 2021, till 8 AM, 20,23,809 beneficiaries have received the vaccination under the countrywide COVID19 vaccination exercise.

In the last 24 hours, 4,08,305 people were vaccinated across 7,764 sessions.

36,378 sessions have been conducted so far.

The total recovered cases are 1.03 cr (1,03,45,985) today which translates to a Recovery Rate of 96.90%. The gap between Recovered cases and Active cases continues to grow and presently stands at 1,01,68,719.

15,901 cases have recovered in the last 24 hours.

83.68% of the new recovered cases are observed to be concentrated in 9 States/UTs.

Kerala has reported the maximum number of single day recoveries with 5,606 recoveries. Maharashtra follows with 3,080 new recoveries. Karnataka recorded another 1,036 daily recoveries.

81.76% of the new cases are concentrated in 8 States and UTs.

Kerala reported the maximum daily new cases numbering 3,361 in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra recorded 1,842 new cases while Tamil Nadu reported 540 new cases yesterday.

Five States/UTs account for 63.25% of the 117 case fatalities reported in the past 24 hours.

Maharashtra reported 30 deaths. Kerala and Chhattisgarh follow with 17 and 13 new deaths, respectively.

India’s deaths per million population (111) are amongst the lowest in the world.

Update on COVID-19 Vaccination

20.29 lakh Healthcare Workers Vaccinated across the country

5,615 beneficiaries vaccinated till 7 pm on 11th day of vaccination drive

The countrywide COVID-19 vaccination program was conducted successfully on the eleventh day.

In view of Republic Day celebrations across the country, limited number of sessions in limited States were conducted today.

As per the provisional till 7 pm today, 5,615 beneficiaries were vaccinated in five states. These are: Andhra Pradesh (9), Karnataka (429), Rajasthan (216), Tamil Nadu (4926) and Telangana (35). 194 sessions were held till 7 pm today.

The cumulative number of healthcare workers vaccinated against COVID19 has crossed 20.29 lakh today. A total of 20,29,424 beneficiaries (till 7 pm today) have been vaccinated through 36,572 sessions, as per the provisional report.

Final reports would be completed for the day by late tonight.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan addresses the event “Family Planning 2020: Celebrating Progress, Transforming for the future”

“We have witnessed an Impressive Decline in Fertility and Maternal Mortality in the last few years”

Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare today digitally addressed a high-level virtual event titled “Family Planning 2020: Celebrating Progress, Transforming for the future”, through Video Conference. The purpose of this event was to celebrate the FP-2020 partnership, the release of the Annual Progress Report for 2019-2020, and kick off the commitment process for the next phase of the partnership.

At the outset, Dr Harsh Vardhan expressed his gratitude to be part of this momentous event celebrating the crucial Family Planning 2020 partnership and reminded the audience that India has always valued its membership of the Family Planning 2020 partnership. He also lauded the invaluable efforts made by the alliance to strengthen family planning services across the world.

Speaking on India’s commitment to Family Planning, he said, “Today marks the 72^nd Republic Day of my beloved motherland, India. What also makes me proud is that India was one of the first countries in the world to formulate a National Family Planning Program way back in 1952. This program was later expanded to cover maternal and child health as well as adolescent health and nutrition. Since then, India has made significant progress in ensuring healthier lives for its citizens.”

Lauding the alliance for adding great zeal to India’s efforts by helping in the creation of synergy between various endeavours in the space of family planning, he observed, “The partnership has played a fundamental role in facilitating exchange of knowledge among member states about latest contraceptives as well as best practices being followed to accelerate adoption of family planning services by the general population.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan underscored the importance of the FP partnership in helping India fulfil its objectives in Family Planning. India achieved its Family Planning 2020 goal for improving contraceptive access in the country with adoption of modern contraceptive use having reached an estimated 55%; the country surpassed its commitment of investing more than 3 billion US Dollars by 2020 for strengthening Family Planning services; the basket of contraceptives has been greatly enhanced with the addition of injectables and the drug ‘Centchroman’ with around 4 million doses of Injectable contraceptive having been administered  cumulatively till now; more than 10 million pregnant women are also benefitting from Post-partum Intra-uterine contraceptive device.

Summing up India’s achievements, he noted, “Improving the quality of contraceptives, augmenting contraceptive demand through comprehensive IEC campaigns, and focused interventions in high fertility districts through Mission Parivar Vikas, have been few of the country’s notable achievements. As a result, we have witnessed an impressive decline in fertility and maternal mortality in the last few years. We continue to strive to substantially reduce the unmet need for contraception by 2030.”

On India’s proposed contribution to the next phase of Family Planning Partnership, Dr. Harsh Vardhan stated: “we realize that advancing collaborations, adopting a more focused approach, and addressing the needs of young population will be of prime importance. India remains committed towards this global agenda. The overall aim thus, is to plan and implement this refurbished approach with the vision that every child is wanted, every birth is safe, and every girl and woman is treated with dignity.”

Dr. Harsh Vardhan ended his address by thanking all members for their continued support and active engagement with this alliance.
