India records lowest New Cases in 7
months; 12,584 found positive in the last 24 hours
25 States/UTs have less
than 5,000 Active Cases
Total number of persons found positive with UK variant strain of COVID is 96;

12,584 daily new cases were added to the national tally in the
last 24 hours after nearly
seven months. The daily new cases were 12,881 on 18th June,
2020.
With a sustained, pro-active and calibrated strategy of
the Centre based on ‘whole of government’ and ‘whole of society’ approach, the
daily new cases have seen a consistent decline. This has ensured a steady fall
in daily fatalities too. 167 daily
deaths recorded in the last 24 hours.
A net decline of 5,968 cases
has been recorded in the total active cases in last 24 hours.
Following the national collective pursuit, 25 States/UTs have less than 5,000 active
cases.
On the other hand, 32
States/UTs have less than 10,000 Active Cases.
As a result of expansion in testing infrastructure,
positivity rate has also dipped.
The total recovered cases have crossed 1.01 cr (10,111,294) today which translates to a Recovery Rate of 96.49%. The gap between Recovered cases and Active cases continues to grow and presently stands at 98,94,736
18,385 cases have recovered in the last 24 hours.
80.50% of the new recovered cases are observed to be
concentrated in 10 States/UTs.
70.08% of the new cases are
concentrated in seven States and UTs.
Kerala reported the maximum daily new cases numbering
3,110in the last 24 hours.
Five States/UTs account for 62.28% of the 167case fatalities reported in the past
24 hours.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of
Health and Family Welfare today through video-conference presided over the
commencement of the first batch of MBBS students of AIIMS Guwahati in the
presence of Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State for Health and Family
Welfare.
Shri
Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister of Assam and Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma,
Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Assam graced the occasion
with their physical presence as Guests of Honor.
Extending his hearty congratulations to
all students of the first batch of MBBS of AIIMS Guwahati, Dr. Harsh Vardhan
took the occasion to remind the audience of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s
vision of Health for all: “AIIMS Guwahati is part of new prestigious
institutions that were conceived under the 5th Phase of the Pradhan Mantri
Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is taking
forward the work of Sh. Atal Bihari Vajpayee; it was because of him that the
spell of almost 50 years was broken for the 2nd AIIMS to be born even as a
concept. While the short-term objective of establishing new AIIMS in various
parts of

Speaking on the Government’s aim of
striving to achieve the WHO target of doctor-patient ratio of ‘1 for every
1000’ by this year itself, he noted, “From Academic Session 2013-14 onwards,
the total number of MBBS seats in the six new AIIMS has gone up to 600,
providing an opportunity to an additional 300 MBBS aspirants. With the addition of
new AIIMS, including AIIMS Guwahati, the overall availability of MBBS seats in
the country has risen to 42,545 in Government Institutions. These MBBS seats
will see a further increase in the future as AIIMS, Guwahati shifts from its
temporary campus to the permanent campus and infrastructure and Human resources
augmentation takes place. AIIMS Guwahati shall have 125 MBBS seats, including
the seats for EWS students. In addition, it shall have 60 Nursing students in
due course of time.” He informed of the government’s endeavor to increase the
overall availability of MBBS seats to 80,000.
Addressing the bright students starting
their educational journey, Dr. Harsh Vardhan said, “I always encourage young
and bright minds to choose the medical profession because the doctor-patient
relationship is guided by the best of human virtues such as altruism, compassion
and the desire to alleviate human suffering.”
Reminding the young professionals about
the sacrifice being continuously made by lakhs of frontline medical personnel
during the COVID-19 pandemic, he said, “Like everywhere else in the world,
doctors and health workers in

Vivekananda and the youth in whom he saw a new resurgent India, Shri Choubey
coined the slogan “Delhi ho ya Guwahati; Apni desh Apni Mati” to best convey
the Prime Minister’s hard work to ensure quality medical care for people of all
regions in the country. He mentioned, “Central Government’s initiative in
setting up new AIIMS and upgradation of GMCs under PMSSY in the different
States is a concerted step in the right direction to promote regional spread of
Super Specialty healthcare and its accessibility.”
Thanking the Prime Minister for his
undiluted attention to the North-East, Shri Sonowal said, “The investment in
the North East region over the last 6 years is beginning to show results as the
region becomes more developed and confident of itself.”
Smt. Queen Oja, Member of Lok Sabha,
Guwahati and Dr. Rajdeep Roy, Member of Lok Sabha, Silchar were invited as
special guests on the occasion.

Dr.
Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health and family Welfare inaugurated the 5th
National Kayakalp Awards along with Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey through a video
conference.
At the beginning, Dr Harsh Vardhan
reminded everyone about clarion call of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji
for Swachhagraha from Rajpath. He said, “Swachh Bharat Mission’s (SBM)
foundation was laid down on 2nd October 2014. Swachh Bharat Mission in its
eighth year of implementation has become a National Movement which has been
able to evoke a sense of responsibility and pride in the citizens of country.”
The Ministry of Health & Family
Welfare, Government of India launched a National Initiative ‘Kayakalp’ on 15th
May 2015 to ensure hygiene, sanitation and cleanliness in Public Health
Facilities in
Applauding the importance of Kayakalp
scheme Dr Harsh Vardhan said, “Kayakalp has not only been able to facelift the
condition of public health facilities but has also made significant impact in
improving the behaviour of masses. This paradigm shift is well reflected in the
number of ‘Satisfied’ patients as reported
through ‘MeraAspataal’.
He continued in this regard, “Importance
of Kayakalp initiative has been amply demonstrated during the current COVID
pandemic. Public Health system of the country rose to the occasion to manage
the global emergency commendably. Mortality rate due to COVID in

success under Kayakalp. He said, “The scheme, whichsawthe participation of 716

community health centre (CHCs) situated within ODF block receives one-time

so that the CHC becomes Kayakalp CHC.”
Highlighting the fact that the success
stories of Kayakalp are not limited to
Dr Harsh Vardhan said, “The Kayakalp has
created a lot of enthusiasm and healthy competition among Govt. Hospitals and
it has brought sense of pride, ownership among health providers and involvement
of local leaders, communities, NGOs, PRIs, local bodies and private sector
hospitals. I am very happy to see steady increase in the number of healthcare
facilities achieving the benchmark score and will like to see all the
healthcare facilities achieving the benchmark score by year 2022 when we
welcome the New India on the occasion of 75 years of
Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey said,
“Kayakalp has made cleanliness an important part of our life which will lead to
a healthy living in all the people. It enhances harmony among people. I
congratulate and thank all those who are instrumental in maintaining the
cleanliness during the pandemic.”
At the end, Dr Harsh Vardhan said, “I
compliment central government institutions for providing clinical leadership in
management of COVID patients. Role of states and health facilities has been
commendable in providing great ambience and high Quality COVID care.”

Health and Family welfare today inaugurated the first ‘The Grand Finale of the
Red Ribbon Quiz Competition’ organized by the National AIDS Control
Organization and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in the presence of Shri
Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare.
Inaugurating the event, Dr Harsh Vardhan
said, “It is a proud privilege and honor for me to be present here today as we
observe the National Youth Day, 2021. We celebrate this day celebrating the
achievements of our youth. This day marks the birth anniversary of Swami
Vivekananda. His ideals have been the great source of inspiration for the youth
in

Congratulating National AIDS Control
Organisation (NACO) for organizing first ever Red Ribbon club Quiz Competition,
Dr. Harsh Vardhan said, “I congratulate NACO as well as State AIDS Control
Societies for conducting quiz competitions at District, State and Regional
level with a total participation of more than 5000 colleges across India. Quiz
has been a quintessential method of knowledge generation among the youth. It
helps them to skim through the existing knowledge while stimulating interest in
learning about a new subject.”
He noted, “NACO has been implementing the
Adolescence Education Programme since 2005 in collaboration with NCERT in more
than 50,000 schools. NACO has also established 12,500 Red Ribbon Clubs (RRCs)
to reach out to the college going youth. This programme is a comprehensive
promotional and preventive intervention to harness the potential, specifically
to mainstream HIV prevention, care & support and treatment, impact
mitigation, stigma reduction and enhance Voluntary Blood Donation. Last
Year, I also had the privilege of felicitating 300 best performing RRCs across
Dr. Harsh Vardhan said, “The current
COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted a need for greater focus on wider
determinants of health including hygiene, nutrition,positive mental health and
psychological wellbeing for a healthy living. I urge you all to coalesce
together and reach out to your known ones at times of distress. Together we
have walked a long distance and shall overcome it.”
Emphasising on the importance of healthy
living, the Union Minister said, “I want to reaffirm that one of the vital
pre-requisites for a productive young workforce is Good Health. It is important
that youth understand what healthy living is all about so that they get into a
habit of making sound decisions when it comes to choices surrounding healthy
living. Awareness Generation is fundamental to aid people in making informed
choices. Thus, today’s event is important is terms of dissemination of
information about HIV/AIDS and other health related issues.”
Speaking about the National Education
Policy, “The Government of India has been striding in this direction and has
come up with transformative policies endeavouring towards a newer
