1 crore Tests conducted in the last 10 days
Less than 40,000 Daily New Cases since the last 11 days continuously
For the last Five days, less than 500 daily deaths recorded

9,22,959 samples
were tested in the last 24 hours which has increased India’s total cumulative
tests to 15,07,59,726.
The
past one crore tests were added in just 10 days. Comprehensive and widespread
testing on a sustained basis has resulted in bringing down the positivity rate.
In
another significant achievement,
The
total recovered cases have surpassed 92.5
lakh (92,53,306) today. The
Recovery Rate has improved to 94.74%. The gap
between Recovered cases and Active cases is steadily increasing and presently
stands at 8,881,013.
77.30% of the new recovered cases
is contributed by ten States/UTs.
Ten
States/UTs have contributed 74.65% of the new
cases.
77.67% of the 412 case fatalities that have been reported in the
past 24 hours are from Ten States/UTs.

Dr
Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Science and
Technology, and Earth Sciences digitally addressed the virtual Curtain Raiser
Ceremony by ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health, at
The
6th IISF‐2020 is being organized by
Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) in collaboration with
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Department of Science and Technology
(DST), Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and
Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA).
Delivering
the address, Dr Harsh Vardhan said, “IISF, launched in 2015, has always been
about showcasing the progress of science and its application for the betterment
of the lives of our people. It is indeed a privilege to preside over this
Curtain Raiser Ceremony being organized by the ICMR-NIRTH,
Expressing
his happiness that the ICMR - NIRTH,
He
continued, “Often residing in hard to reach areas with difficult terrains, our
tribal population has had inequitable access to benefits of our significant
advancements in science, technology as well as public health services.”
Dr
Vardhan emphasized that the health and well-being of the tribal population is
of utmost importance to the government. “We have been taking a slew of measures
in this regard. In 2018, an expert committee constituted jointly by Ministry of
Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Tribal Affairs, identified 10 major
concerns that need immediate attention for the wellbeing of tribes &
started working towards it”, he added.
The
Union Minister congratulated ICMR for its extraordinary contribution in
bio-medical research. Applauding ICMR-NIRTH,
Dr
Vardhan invited everyone to participate in IISF-2020 which is going to be held
virtually from December 22nd to December 25th, 2020.
“The India International science festival provides a platform for
cross-pollination of ideas that will lead to better policy making to help
improve the quality of living of our people. I invite budding researchers &
scientists to join this unique platform and help bridge the gap between science
and society”, he said.

Dr.
Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare digitally addressed
the Inter-Ministerial meeting on Vaccination of South Asia against COVID-19 by
the World Bank, here today through Video Conference.
Presenting
a detailed summary of the proactive, preemptive, graded, whole of government
and society approach to the COVID-19 pandemic undertaken by India, Dr. Harsh
Vardhan said, “Effective planning and strategic management has enabled India to
keep its cases per million at 7,078against the global average of 8,883. The
fatality rate is 1.45%, well below the global average of 2.29%.”
He
then proceeded to inform the audience of the vaccine distribution expertise,
production and storage capacity of
Reminding
everyone of the strong political commitment of Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi
who has been personally supervising the vaccine production by visiting the
manufacturing facilities of pharmaceutical companies engaged in production of
vaccines, encouraging the scientists at helm and catalyzing the process, he
said, “It is expected that the vaccine will be available in the coming few
weeks and the vaccination process will kickstart in India as soon as it is
approved by the concerned regulatory agency. With stringent oversight, we are
ensuring, that there is no compromise on scientific and regulatory norms,
stretching from safety of the trials to efficacy of the vaccines.”
Dr.
Harsh Vardhan also detailed how leveraging the existing digital interventions
of India’s Mission Indradhanushimmunization
programs, India is building the advanced CO-WIN digital platform
whichwill allow citizens to self-register for vaccination, monitor their status
and be provided with a QR code based electronic vaccination certificate upon
completion of the process. He added that the government has analyzed the
present requirement of vaccines and is working towards augmenting capacities,
healthcare infrastructure & workforce.
The Minister
concluded his speech by honoring the courage & sacrifice of numerous corona
warriors across the globe who have been at the forefront in the fight against
COVID19.
